Since 2008, Hector Rail has collaborated with Samskip to deliver intermodal transport solutions across the Nordic region. Over the years, operations have covered several terminals, including Helsingborg, Gothenburg and Katrineholm, and have involved complex flows with multiple border crossings. Hector Rail has long been, and continues to be, an important part of Samskip's transport setup.
Samskip is a leading provider of intermodal transport solutions, where goods are transported using a combination of different modes of transport. Their operations place high demands on precision, flexibility and delivery reliability, as the transports are often part of time-critical flows for their customers.
Cross-border operations involve a high degree of complexity. Different signalling systems, regulations and personnel across multiple countries make the transports sensitive to disruptions. At the same time, stable deliveries and the ability to quickly adjust capacity and operations are essential.
At the same time, the industry is undergoing significant change. In 2027, the new European signalling system ETCS will be implemented in Denmark, impacting all cross-border traffic between Sweden and Germany. For us, this introduces new requirements for both equipment and resources, but also an opportunity to further strengthen our solutions. By adapting our operations and bringing in additional resources, we ensure that transport flows continue without disruption.
To meet these requirements, Hector Rail delivers a flexible and scalable solution. With access to a large locomotive fleet, we can quickly replace resources when needed and ensure continuity in operations. Through our established presence in Germany and our workforce across multiple countries, we are able to manage the entire transport chain efficiently, even across borders.
Our flexibility becomes particularly evident during unexpected events. In 2019, Hector Rail was the first rail operator to pass The Great Belt Bridge following a major incident, operating a Samskip train from Helsingborg. Thanks to strong documentation and rapid operational coordination, we were granted access to the previously closed section. On other occasions, we have also rerouted transports via ferry, including in 2019, 2021, 2025 and 2026, to ensure that deliveries reach their destination on time.
The result is stable and reliable transport flows with a high degree of flexibility. Through our ability to quickly adapt to changing needs and meet the customer's requirements for delivery precision, we have become a long-term partner in Samskip's intermodal operations.
